When Lindsay Lohan hit the red carpet to promote her latest movie, “Our Little Secret,” people were quick to notice that the actress donned a new look. It wasn’t her dress or hairstyle people were chattering about, but rather her overall glow-up. “What has Lindsay Lohan had done?! She looks STUNNING,” one fan wrote on Reddit.[]
Joel Kopelman, MD, a facial plastic surgeon at Kopelman Aesthetic Surgery, suspects that Lohan’s transformation is due to a few factors. “From my perspective, it appears she’s invested in excellent skin care, possibly with treatments like laser resurfacing, microneedling, or chemical peels to refine her skin texture and boost collagen,” he tells MDLinx.

Filler and Botox can affect skin over time
Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan, previously confirmed that his daughter has received Botox injections, chemical peels, and fillers, according to Yahoo.[] It’s unclear whether she continues to get these procedures, but many people suspect that the actress has ditched the filler in recent years and had previous injections dissolved.
While filler can be transformative, it can negatively impact a person’s appearance if it’s administered too frequently or clumsily. “If she has used injectables or undergone other procedures, they’ve been done with a light hand, which is key to achieving a refreshed and natural result,” Dr. Kopelman says.

How are patients reacting to filler?
Dr. Kopelman has treated many patients who’ve come to see him after years of getting injections and filler. Why? One unwanted side effect that can occur is filler fatigue, which is when too much filler is placed into the skin over time. This leads to a plump, stretched, or distorted appearance, Dr. Kopelman says. “This happens because fillers add volume, but they don’t address deeper structural changes in the face, such as bone and fat loss, which occur naturally with aging,” he adds.
Excessive injection of fillers can also stretch out the skin, says Arnold Breitbart, MD, the head plastic surgeon at Long Island Facelift. “After the expected resorption of the filler over time, this may result in some sagginess of the skin,” he says.
Another issue patients face is filler migration, which occurs when injected filler moves to a different part of the face. Prem Tripathi, MD, a facial plastic surgeon at Bay Hills Plastic Surgery in Alamo, CA, says that certain areas, such as the lips and under the eyes, are more prone to filler migration.
According to Dr. Kopelman, migration is typically caused by over-injection or an incorrect technique that causes an uneven or unnatural appearance. When overused, Botox can similarly cause someone’s face to look frozen, but these effects are typically short-lived. “It’s all about balance, and that’s why I take a tailored, conservative approach to every patient,” Dr. Kopelman says.
There are many less-invasive skincare treatments that can give skin a healthy glow
There are many dermatologic procedures that can impact how your skin looks and feels. “I often recommend a combination of treatments tailored to the patient’s needs, focusing on boosting the skin’s own regenerative capabilities rather than just masking concerns,” Dr. Kopelman says.
For example, microneedling can stimulate collagen production, which can rejuvenate the skin.[][] Laser therapies, such as laser resurfacing, can reduce redness and fine lines and enhance skin texture, research shows.[]
Red light therapy, which has become extremely popular over the past couple of years, is used to reduce inflammation, promote collagen production, and rejuvenate the skin.[] And intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments, which use light to treat aging skin, can help with blemishes, scarring, wrinkles, and sunspots, according to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.[] “All of these require customization and a long-term commitment instead of one-off treatments,” Dr. Tripathi says.
Dr. Breitbart says that results like Lohan’s can be achieved through one or more of these skin procedures. “It is likely that her skincare regimen has included the use of microneedling, laser skin resurfacing, or IPL treatments,” he says.
